What is Lupus?
Lupus is a chornic, inflammatory autoimmune disorder. Im may affect the skin, joints, kidneys, and other organs. This means there is a problem with the body's normal immune system response. Normally, the immune system helps protect the body from harmful substances. But in patients with an autoimmune disease, the immune system can't tell the difference between harmful substances and healthy ones. The result is an overactive immune response that attacks otherwise healthy cells and tissue. This leads to chronic (long-term) inflammation.

The underlying cause of autoimmune diseases in general, and Lupus in particular, is not fully known. Some researchers think the condition develops after infection with an organism that looks like certain proteins in the body. The proteins are later mistaken for the organism and wrongly targeted for attack by the body’s immune system. Lupus may be mild or severe enough to cause death.

Symptoms vary from person to person and may come and go. The condition may affect one organ or body system at first. Others may become involved later. Almost all people with Lupus have joint pain and most develop arthritis. Frequently affected joints are the fingers, hands, wrists and knees.

General symptoms include fever, fatigue, and a general discomfort, uneasiness, or ill feeling. A “butterfly” rash over the cheeks and bridge of the nose affects about half of those with Lupus. The rash gets worse when in sunlight. The rash may also be widespread. There can be sensitivity to sunlight, joint pain, swelling, arthritis, and swollen glands. Muscle aches, nausea and vomiting are common.

Who is Showcase Benefit Productions?
Showcase Benefit Productions is a theatrical producing organization. Showcase presents live entertainments to the public as vehicles to benefit non-profit organizations. Showcase is dedicated to community service through the presentation of these intimate live theatrical events.

In addition to producing the show itself, Showcase coordinates a volunteer force to prepare and serve a full service (food and beverage) reception prior to most performances to stimulate, promote, teach and develop volunteer community involvement as a way to raise awareness and funding for community issues and situations. The profits (100%) from each show/event are donated to a pre-selected charity. Only the out-of-pocket production expenses are retained by Showcase.

By mounting live entertainments, Showcase can help groups of committed volunteers raise funds and awareness for worthy causes and charitable organizations on a grass roots level. In addition to promoting volunteer service toward the community by the participants, Showcase provides the ticket buyers live entertainment and an organized reception. Showcase Benefit Productions offers the convenience of combining a beverage, food, and live entertainment option into the ticket purchase – and it’s all for a good cause.
