Character Breakdown
Alice- Female, ages 8-16. Has an active imagination and a fondness for showing off her knowledge (which often is lacking). She is polite and kind-hearted and genuinely concerned about others. Brave and headstrong, she always follows-through when she gets an idea. Please note: this role may be double cast.
White Rabbit- Male, ages 12-21. A nervous character of somewhat important rank in Wonderland. He generally is in a hurry. He is capable and sure of himself in his job, even to the point of contradicting the King. Please note: this role may be double cast.
Mad Hatter- Male, ages 12-21. The classic character whose crazy antics and wild mannerisms make him quite memorable. He is often impolite and seemingly fond of confusing people.
March Hare- Male, ages 12-21. The Mad Hatter's friend and companion, equally crazy and discourteous.
Dormouse- Male or Female, ages 8-21. The Hare and the Hatter's lethargic, much-abused companion.
Queen of Hearts- Female, ages 14-21. A monstrous, violently domineering woman. She seems to hold the ultimate authority in Wonderland, although her continuous death sentences are never actually carried out… Please note: this role may be double cast.
King of Hearts- Male, ages 14-21. An incompetent and ineffectual ruler almost entirely dominated by his wife. He is self-centered and stubborn.
White Queen- Female, ages 12-21. The lesser queen of Wonderland. She allows herself to be dominated in the presence of her red counterpart.
Knave of Hearts- Male, ages 10-21. Kind, gentle, and strangely noble, despite his extreme clumsiness.
Tweedledee- Male or Female, ages 8-18. Brother of Tweedledum. Both are dressed as schoolboys who are fond of dancing and poetry. They are very affectionate with one another, but fight over an extremely trivial matter. Please note: this part may be double cast.
Tweedledum- Male or Female, ages 8-18. Brother of Tweedledee. Both are dressed as schoolboys who are fond of dancing and poetry. They are very affectionate with one another, but fight over an extremely trivial matter. Please note: this part may be double cast.
Duchess- Female, ages 12-21. An odd, spiteful woman who mistreats her baby and submits to a shower of abuse from her cook. She is horribly ugly. In her anxiety to remain in the good graces of the queen, she can be superficially sweet to someone she thinks can aid her socially.
Caterpillar- Male or Female, ages 10-21. One of the creatures of Wonderland.
Gryphon- Male or Female, ages 10-21. One of the creatures of Wonderland
Mock Turtle- Male or Female, ages 10-21. One of the creatures of Wonderland.

Executioner- Male, ages 10-21. The royal executioner. May also double for other small roles.
Ensemble- Males and Females, ages 8-21. Up to four “ensemble” members may or may not be cast, depending on the necessity of the cast. If cast roles would include being jury members, extra cards, and oysters, to name a few.
**If you would like to learn more about these characters, please feel free to read Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, both by Lewis Carroll. However, please realize that certain characters may not have made it into the play version of the story (i.e. The Cheshire Cat).
